In 2009 the Toombs County Bulldogs were a team that never quit and that determination led to many come-from-behind wins. Twice this week the 2010 team proved that they can carry on that tradition. On Tuesday, at East Laurens, the Dawgs rallied from two down in the top of the seventh to tie and then they won the game in the eighth and then on Saturday they topped that by overcoming a 7-3 deficit after four innings at Pierce County to snatch a 9-8 win in eight innings and go 13-0 on the season..

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead. Blake Butcher, Stacy Cheshire and Josh Allen each drove in a run and then the tying and go ahead runs each scored on an error. However, Pierce scratched out a run in the sixth to tie the game at eight. In the eighth inning Javec King stroked a one-out triple to left field and then scored on Ryan Davis's sacrifice fly. King went from home to third base in 10.53 seconds. Davis pitched the final three to earn his first varsity win. Watch highlights with head coach Brian Fitzgerald Video

Adams's 9th inning homer ends classic

Justin Adams big swing

Adams and the Bulldogs celebrate

Magic bat, Magic swing, Magic win

Justin Adams with his magic bat on loan from Berry Aldridge   Winning pitcher Jonathan Salter and coach Brian Fitzgerald

In a game that had the feel of the Robert Redford movie "The Natural", Bulldog senior Justin Adams swung his magic bat hard as he led off the bottom of the ninth inning by hitting a Tucker Darsey pitch off the yellow on the top of the right field fence and it bounced over for a walk-off home run that gave Toombs County a 5-4 win over Bleckley County at a wild and very excited Jackie Jones Field.

Adams, who borrowed the 33 ounce, 30 inch original DeMarini Voodoo bat from freshman catcher Berry Aldridge, hit a solo homer with it on his first swing in a Thursday win at Atkinson County. On Friday he walked his first two times at the plate and then he hit two doubles and his game-winning home run. The Magic Bat is actually and old Brewton-Parker College bat. BPC gave the bat to Aldridge about four years ago. He uses it in Bulldog B-Team games and when he plays with the varsity.

The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 after three innings as Bleckley scored a run in the first on a two-out RBI double by Chase Young and a run in the third on a two out homer by Darsey. The Bulldogs rallied in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Dowd which brought in Bryan Benton, who led off the inning with a single. TCHS took a 3-2 lead in the fifth after scoring a run on a balk and a RBI double by Adams.

Bleckley County regained the lead in the sixth off reliever Jonathan Salter, who hit two batters, gave up a run scoring single. Salter walked Tyler Sellers with the bases loaded to put the Royals up 4-3. However, the Bulldogs got busy in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Patrick Craft led off with a single. Craft was thrown out at the plate on a Adams double to left field. Neal Rodgers, who pitched the first four innings, saved the Bulldogs by doubling in the tying run with two outs.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the eighth with nobody out and did not score. A strikeout, a force play at home on a grounder back to the mound and a six to four force play at second base ended the threat.

Salter pitched the final five innings of the game and picked up his first varsity win. He struck out nine batters, walked three, hit three and allowed only two base hits. The left handed sophomore stranded the bases loaded in the sixth by striking out Chase Young and he got a ground ball out to shortstop Blake Chaulkley to end the eighth with two runners on base. The Toombs County Bulldogs only had six hits in a 5-1 win at Atkinson County, but half of them were solo homers. Javec King opened up the game with a deep drive over the left field fence good for over 345 feet. Lance Mosley led off the second inning with a 365 foot plus homer over the center field fence and in the seventh Justin Adams hit one over the left field field fence. King no-hits the Indians in sub win

Javec King ends no-hitter with his tenth strikeout

It may not have been common knowledge at Jackie Jones Field, but Toombs County's Javec King pitched a no-hitter and beat the Vidalia Indians 6-1. In fact King didn't know he had done it until the game was over. The reason? In the first inning there was a ground ball to the right of first base that was not successfully fielded and the ruling in the official book, in the dugout, was an error on the play. The Bulldogs made two errors in the inning and yielded an unearned run. King improved his record to 3-0 by striking out 10 and walking two and retiring 18 of the final 19 batters that he faced including the last 14 in a row. Y-101 Story

Toombs County rallied by scoring a run in the second on a Josh Allen RBI hit and then the Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when King hit a ball to deep left field, it stayed in the park, but was dropped by the left fielder and two runs scored. In the sixth Taylor Dowd singled in two runs and also scored a run. Dowd was 2-for-2 with two RBI's and three runs scored. The Bulldogs are 6-2 overall and 1-0 in Region 3B.

Salter stroked two RBI singles and a two-run home run. Center fielder Patrick Craft also had a run scoring hit and he started a triple play.
