Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Cross Country team who participated in the STATE meet Saturday Nov. 7th in Carrollton, Georgia. It was a beautiful,cool day to run in Northwest Georgia. The Toombs County Runnin' Bulldogs finished 15th and the Lady Bulldogs finished 17th in STATE! In region 3-AA, the boys finished 2nd, and the girls finished 3rd.
Out of a field of 221 boys, Esgar Maldonado finished 55th with a time of 18:44, Angel Colemaneres finished 76th with a time of 19:13, Daniel Avellenada finished 92nd with a time of 19:26, Dakota Higgs finished 111 with a time 19:57, Rene Tinoco finished 129th with a time of 20:15, Tony Guerrero placed 163rd with a time of 21:12, and Alex Zamorano who ran with a stomach virus placed 220th with a time of 31:12. Alex stopped 3 times to vomit, but did not quit the course. Wow!
Out of a field of 191 girls, Lisa Espino finished 67th with a time of 23:51, Kristen Flowers placed 68th with a tiem of 23:53, Kristin Cook placed 119th with a time of 26:32, Claudia Zamorano placed 122nd with a time of 26:41 and Georgia Jernigan who ran with a stress fractured toe placed 154th with a time of 28:42. |

Toombs County MS girls ran strong! Lacie Leggett placed 21st with a time of 14:47, and received a medal of honor for placing in the top 25 runners in the state of Georgia. Samantha Houston placed 35th with a time of 15:35. Ashlee Beverly placed 63rd with a time of 16:25. Bailey Bryson placed 85th with a time of 17:18. Danielle Plante placed 92nd with a time of 18:02 and Jinnia Jernigan placed 108th with a time of 19:53.
Toombs County MS boys won the STATE individual race. Gilbert Zamorano placed 7th with a time of 12:25. Brandon Rosales placed 10th with a time of 12:34, Rafael Flores placed 15th with a time of 12:57, Travis Carter-Morales placed 18th with a time of 13:13, Fernando Sanchez placed 22nd with a time of 13:16, and Ricardo Tinoco placed 25th with a time of 13:40. All of these boys received a medal of honor for placing in the tip 25 runners in the state of Georgia. Efrain Quintero placed 27th with a time of 13:50 and Tommy Bryson placed 107th with a time of 17:04.

Toombs County Runnin' DOGS do it again!
In the rain, the boys cross country team ran hard and finished as the Region Runner-up! The girl's placed 3rd overall. This advances both teams to STATE in Carrollton, Ga. on Nov. 7th! This is the 4th year in a row that both the girls and the boys Cross Country team have qualified for the State meet.

Toombs County Middle School Cross Country Teams are Region 3-AA Runner-up!
On Tuesday Oct. 13th the Bullpups ran at Bleckley Co. 2-mile Championship. Both teams finished 2nd behind Bleckley Co.
The girls ran strong! The top 5 girls for TCMS are: Samantha Houston finished 3rd with a time of 14:46. Lacie Leggett finished 8th with a time ot 15:36. Christasia Jones finished 13th with a time of 16:05. Julie Shepard finished 37th with a time of 18:04 and Ashley Beverly finished 38th with a time of 18:05. Heather Villagas finished 41st, Bailey Brison finished 42nd, Danielle Plante finished 46th, Ashley Clark finished 50th and Ansley Tatum finished 51st.
The MS boy's finished 6 points behind 1st place. Gilbert Zamorano led the race until the very end placing 2nd with a time of 12:28. Brandon Rosales finished 6th with a time of 13:07, Rafael Flores finished 9th with a time of 13:16, Fernando Sanchez finished 13th with a time of 13:15, and Travis Morales finished 15th with a time of 13:54. Efrain Zamorano finished 17th, Ricardo Tinoco finished 19th, Tommy Bryson finished 52nd and Brannon Braddock finished 60th.
The TCHS running Bulldogs finished in 1st place at the Swainsboro meet Thursday Oct. 15th. Swainsboro placed 2nd. Esgar Maldonado placed a PR time of 18:35. Lisa Espino ran the course in 22:26. Kristin Flowers and Angel Colemaneres placed 3rd with a time of 23:42 and 19:30 respectively. Claudia Zamorano placed 4th, Kristin Cook placed 5th, Georgia Jernigan placed 8th, Melayna Denmark placed 9th, Corissa Whitfield placed 10th, Rayna Oliver placed 11th. Saturday, the Running Dawgs ran in the Mercer Run Fit Sports Invitational. The Lady Bulldog runner Kristen Flowers placed 60th out of a field of 131 female runners. The Boy's team placed 18th out of 23 teams and 2nd in the Region. Two hundred and ten male high school runners participated. Esgar Maldonado placed 56th, Daniel Avellenada placed 57th, Pete Denmark placed 117th, Alex Zamorano placed 129th, Tim Bowen 137th, Tyler Hadden 152nd, Jamie Cabrera 153rd, Ross Castro 154th and Sergio Flores placed 206th.
Tuesday Sept. 29, 2009 the running Dawgs were at Claxton. The Middle School Boy's and Girl's teams placed 1st! The other MS teams which participated were: Vidalia and Appling Co. The Bulllpup boys were led by Gilbert Zamorano coming in 1st, Fernando Sanchez 2nd, Brandon Rosales 3rd, Travis Morales 4th, Tommy Bryson 9th and Brannon Braddock with 12th place. The MS girls were led by Samantha Houston 1st, Lacie Leggett 2nd, Ashley Clark 4th, Ashlee Beverly 6th, Bailey Bryson 10th, Ansley Tatum 11th, Danielle Plante th, Jinnia Jernigan 15th and Jade Jernigan with 20th place.
Toombs Co. HS Bulldogs competed against Vidalia, Southeast Bulloch, Appling and Claxton.The girl's ran impressively. Lisa Espino placed 1st posting a time of 22:04, Kristen Flowers placed 2nd, Claudia Zamorano placed 10th and Rayna Oliver placed 29th.Great job Lady Bulldogs.
The boys placed 2nd overall falling to Vidalia by 5 points. SEB was 3rd, Claxton was 4th and Appling 5th. Although the Bulldogs were 2nd, Esgar Maldonado placed 1st with a time of 17:29, and Daniel Avellenanda placed 3rd with a time of 17:42, Tim Bowen placed 12th, Dakota Higgs placed 14th, Tony Guerro placed 15th, Tyler Hadden placed 18th, Alex Zamorano placed 21st, and Sergio Flores placed 43rd.
The Bulldogs' # 3 runner Senior Pete Denmark went down on the final 1/2 mile of his race injuring his foot, but that would not stop Pete! He was determined to finish his race. As he hobbled horribly in pain, his other Dawg teammates encouraged him to continue. Pete completed his race with his Bulldog Teammates cheering him on, chanting, "Pete, Pete, Pete." He finished his race in 48th place, but the outcome of the race was not important today. Today his teammates would not leave their fallen Bulldog. The entire team rallied around Pete and walked/jogged with him to the finish line. It is a moment idelibly etched in history. Even though the Bulldogs were 2nd, it did not matter, today's lesson was a life long lesson: team spirit, determination, perserverance... and to know that when things get tough, to fight through to the end, your "teammates" won't leave you, and you can finish the race that has been set before you. |

The CC team ran Thursday at West Laurens. The boy's finished in 1st place! Way to go DAWGS! Burke Co. was 2nd, Dublin was 3rd, W. Laurens was 4th, Dodge was 5th and E.Laurens was 6th. The Running Bulldogs ran at Claxton on Tuesday. The boy's team placed 3rd overall with 74 points. Esgar Maldonado placed 1st with a time of 18:01, Daniel Avellenada placed 4th with a time of 18:12 and Dakota Higgs placed 18th with a time of 19:48. Tattnall was 1st with 51 points, Vidalia was 2nd with 67 points, Jenkins was 4th wtih 78 points , Claxton was 5th wtih 81 points and Montgomery Co. was 6th with 214 points.

The HS boy's placed 3rd in our region with Esgar Maldonado placing 10th and Daniel Avellenada placing 17th out of 147 boys. Both boys received a medal of honor for placing in the top 25. Kristen Flowers placed 21st and Claudia Zamorano placed 23rd out of 90 girls. They both received medals of honor.
On Thursday Sept. 10 the HS running Dawgs ran at Swainsboro. Both teams placed 1st ahead of Swainsboro, Metter and East Laurens. Esgar Maldonado and Daniel Avellenada lead the boy's team running their race in 19:16 and 19:30 respectively. Senior- Lisa Espino, Sophomore- Claudia Zamorano and Kristen Flowers lead the girls team. |

Knight finishes fourth at state

In her first trip to the GHSA State Track Meet in Albany Toombs County's Jalisha Knight finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Knight ran a career best 15.080 and she was just .02 seconds out of second place. Laconia Davis. from Rockmart placed second with a 15.060 and Jalisha's big rival, Annie Fletcher of Bleckley County, was third in 15.070. Westminster's Miray Seward won the event in a time of 14.730. Congratulations to the TCHS Cross Country team! On Saturday November 8th the Dogs ran at the STATE cross country meet in Carrollton, Georgia. Both teams placed 2nd in Region 3AA competition. The boy's team placed 22nd in STATE out of 32 teams and the girl's team placed 12th in STATE out of 27 teams.

Congratulations to the TCMS running DAWGS who participated in the MS STATE CC race Saturday in Bleckley Co. The girls and boys ran the Championship race. The girls also participated in the JV Championship race.
The TCMS girls placed 21st in the state of GA out of 23 teams and placed 2nd in our Region! The girls who participated in the Championship Race were: Bailey Brison placed 137th with a time of 16:42, Samantha Houston placed 138th with a time of 16:47, Desiree Parker placed 145th with a time of 17:10, Heather Villegas placed 150th with a time of 17:34 and Lauren Mayes placed 166 with a time of 19:52.
The TCMS boys who participated inthe Championship Race were: Rafeal Florez placed 122nd with a time of 14:31, Travis Carter-Morales placed 150th with a time of 15:22, Alex Zamorano placed 160th with a time of 15:56 and Oswaldo Guzman placed 163rd with a time of 16:25.

The boy's tied with Dublin HS boy's with a team score of 46 and had to go to the 6th place to decide. Jonathan Edwards (16th) edged out Dublin's runner (18th) to win 1st place! Awesome Job DAWGS!

| This has been a busy week for the Toombs County Cross Country teams with trips to Macon on Saturday, Dublin on Tuesday and Swainsboro on Thursday. Lisa Espino was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs placing third at Dublin and earlier in the season she was the winner in a race at Tattnall County. Cross County season comes to an end at the State Meet in Carrollton
The Toombs Co. County Bulldogs ran exceptionally well at STATE Saturday. There are 8 AA regions with 4 teams plus individuals who qualify. Each region is allowed to run 7 individuals, therefore over 214 boys and 214 girls competed. Toombs Co. boys finished 22nd out of 30+ teams and Toombs Co. girls finished 14th out of 30+ teams.
The seven runners for the Bulldogs were: Bobby Mincey placed 59th with a time of 18:38; Francisco Depaz placed 130th with a time of 20:19; Jeremy Craft placed 132 with a time of 20:21; Jerome Johnson placed 147th with a time of 20:33; Patrick Craft placed 151st with a time of 20:36; Rashond Baker placed 158th with a time of 20:27 and Ric Stewart finished 164th with a time of 21:15.

TCMS wraps up season
On Saturday Oct. 20, 2007 the Toombs Co. Bullpups ran in the 16th Annual Bleckley Co. Invitational. The top 4 teams overall received trophies, and the top 25 individuals received metals. The Bullpup Boys were 3rd overall out of 19 teams, and received a trophy. Dakota Higgs and Ross Castro received metals of honor for placing 10th and 11th respectively. The Lady Bullpups placed 7th overall out of 18 teams.

On Saturday Oct. 27, 2007 the Bullpups participated in the 2nd Annual Open STATE Cross Country Meet in Bleckley Co. There was a Championship race for the girls and the boys. In addition, a JV race was run for girls and boys. The top 5 for Toombs Co. ran in the Championship races. These were: Jeremy Beasley, Ross Castro, Manuel Hernandez, Dakota Higgs and Ethan Reddish for the boys. The girls top 5 were: Melayna Denmark, Georgia Jernigan, Jalisha Knight, Rayna Oliver, and Janine Taylor. The boys placed 14th in the top 20 teams who participated. Ross Castro placed 19th overall with a time of 12:26 with 193 runners participating, and received a metal. The girls placed 17th out of the top 20 teams with 190 girls participating. In the JV girls race, Paula Dell, Katie Hayes, Jade Jernigan, Jazmine Moore, Desiree Parker and Heather Villegas ran. Three girls received metals for placing in the top 25. TCMS Girls finish 2nd and Boys 3rd at Region Meet
Congratulations to the TCMS Cross Country team which ran at the REGION meet in Bleckley Co. on Tuesday October 16th. The Lady Bullpups are your 2007 Region Runner-up! They placed 2nd in Region 4AA, and the Bullpups placed 3rd. What an awesome accomplishment for our up coming BULLDOGS!
