Lady Bulldogs end season with DH sweep
| The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs celebrated Senior Day with a double-header sweep of East Laurens. A 12-7 win in game one clinched a spot in the Region 3 Tourney for the Lady Bulldogs. Kirkley hits Yearty (twice)
| In a game in Lyons, earlier in the season, Bleckley County pitcher Chelsey Yearty no-hit the Toombs County Bulldogs. In the rematch in Cochran, Megan Hayes broke up Yeraty's no-hit bid with a two-out single in the first and then Elizabeth Kirkley stroked runs scoring hits in the third and fifth. The Lady Bulldogs tied the game at one-all in the fourth when Brianna Mincey walked, stole second and third and then scored on a wild pitch. Lady Bulldogs celebrate 2008 season at banquet
| The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team celebrated the 2008 season at a banquet at Chatters in Lyons. The Lady Bulldogs, who came within three outs of making it back to sectionals, honored four players who were named to either All-Region 3 or All-Sub-Region 3A teams. Juniors Brianna Mincey (2B) and Elizabeth Kirkley (3B), pictured on the left, were named to the All-Sub-Region 3B team. Seniors Samantha Dowd (pitcher) and Corneshia Corouthers (catcher) were named to both the All-Sub-Region 3B and Region 3 teams. Lady Bullldogs season ends in the 7th inning
| During the regular season Dodge County beat Toombs County 7-1 and 8-0 on a three-hitter and a no-hitter. However, with a trip to the state sectionals on the line the Lady Bulldogs almost pulled off an upset in the Region 3 Tournament in Swainsboro. Toombs County scored four runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. That advantage held up until the bottom of the seventh when the Lady Indians scored twice to win the game 5-4. Lady Bulldogs survive first day of region tourney
| After losing to Screven County 8-2 in the opening round of the Region 3 Tournament in Swainsboro, the Toombs County lady Bulldog softball team stayed alive in the double-elimination event by defeating Swainsboro 8-0. Caitlin Vinson pitched the entire six inning game and allowed only a couple of hits. Cornshia Corouthers had a big hitting game driving in two runs, in a four run third inning, with a triple and Elizabeth Kirley, who almost hit a grand slam home run to center field, hit a ball that scored four runs including herself. Lady Bulldogs end regular season with rout
| The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs ended their regular season by stroking 14 hits in a 20-0 three inning win at East Laurens. Brianna Mincey hit an inside-the-park grand slam and Caitlin Vinson pitched a no-hitter. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up fourth place in the sub region and a trip to Swainsboro for the Region 3 Tourney. Vidalia rallies for extra inning win
| Less than three weeks after being shutout by Vidalia 9-0 the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs played much better on Senior Day in Lyons. However, Vidalia rallied from a 3-0 deficit and defeat TCHS 5-4 in eight innings. Toombs County built up a 3-0 lead by scoring single runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning. Vidalia scored three in the sixth to tie the game and then the Lady Indians outscored Toombs 2-1 in the extra inning. Kirkley hits a two-run homer over the fence
| For the second Monday in a row the Swainsboro Lady Tigers defeated Toombs County in a close game. The Lady Tigers held on to a 6-5 win in Lyons just seven days after beating the Lady Bulldogs 2-0 in Swainsboro. Elizabeth Kirkley raliled Toombs County to within a run with a well stroked two-run home run over the left field fence. Kirkley's third career homer (the first two came in travel ball) was her first high school home run and the first over the fence homer by a Lady Bulldog at the field next to the middle school. Lady Bulldogs lose to Bleckley
| Bleckley County freshman pitcher Marlee Bryan pitched the Lady Royals to a 5-1 win over the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs softball team in Lyons on Thursday. Bryan pitched a four-hitter with eight strike outs. Toombs County's Samantha Dowd also struck out eight and she finished the game by retiring the final nine batters she faced. Vinson pitches four inning perfect game
| Caitlin Vinson pitched a four inning no-hitter as Toombs County beat winless Dublin 18-0 on the road. Vinson struck out seven and had only one nervous moment in the game, but right fielder Megan Hayes threw out Whitney Tarpley at first base on what could have been a first inning base hit. Tired Lady Bulldogs lose a tough one
| Just one full day after playing six games in 13 hours with just a two hour break in a tourney at Jeff Davis, the Toombs County lady Bulldog softball team lost a 2-0 game at Swainsboro. Senior pitchers Samantha Dowd (TCHS) and Macy Lawson each pitched a two-hitter. The difference in the game was taking advantage of scoring opportunities. Swainsboro did and Toombs didn't. Winning day for Toombs County sports
| Thursday was a winning day for Toombs County sports. The TCHS Lady Bulldog softball team defeated East Laurens 12-2 in five innings. Caitlin Vinson tossed a two-hitter and Samantha Dowd went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. | Dodge County won two softball games in Lyons as the Lady Indians beat the Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs 7-1 and Dodge's Middle School defeated the Lady Bullpups 9-1. Corneshia Corouthers drove in the Lady Bulldogs only run with a third inning single and Lakayla Faison, who had a triple and a single, scored the Lady Bullpups only run on a Megan Meadows' grounder. The Toombs County softball teams split a pair of games with their visitors from Laurens County. The TCHS Lady Bulldogs beat Dublin 15-0 in three innings. | The Toombs County lady Bulldogs opened their home schedule with a 6-5 loss to Tattnall County. Both teams scored three runs in the third and Toombs took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI grounder by Brianna Mincey. | Playing in a tournament in Glennville, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team breezed through pool play winning their third straight game, 12-3 over Tattnall County, on Saturday. Elizabeth Kirkley went 4-5 with four runs scored and Corneshia Courouthers drove in six runs. Samantha Dowd pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. | On Friday, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team opened up the season with two complete game two-hit victories. Senior Samantha Dowd pitched TCHS to a 4-2 win over Liberty County by tossing a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Corneshia Courouthers had a triple. In the second game the Lady Bulldogs beat Claxton 9-2 as sophomore Caitlin Vinson threw her two-hitter and struck out 11. |

Five Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball players were honored for their play during the 2007 season. Senior Brittany Wilds (pitcher/first base) junior Corneshia Courouthers (catcher) and junior Samantha Dowd (pitcher/third base) were voted to the All-Region 4 team. Lady Bulldogs eliminated in South Sectionals
The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs lost to Jeff Davis 3-0 in a first round game. The game was scoreless going to the sixth inning. Elizabeth Kirkley had two doubles, Jessica Mincey two singles and Brianna Mincey had a single. Samantha Dowd pitched the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Samantha Dowd drove in both of the Toombs County runs with a single in the second that scored Jessica Mincey, who had doubled, and Dowd hit a grounder to short that tied the game at two in the fourth. The Vidalia Lady Indians scored two early runs and four late ones to beat the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs 6-0 in a softball game in Lyons. Winning pitcher Brooke McKie allowed four hits and one walk and struck out eight. In a game heard on Y-101 Radio, Tattnall County nipped Toombs County 3-2 in softball. The Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the early innings. Tiffany Simmons hit the ball to the right side of the infield to score the first run and Jessica Mincey tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Tattnall scored one in the 5th and two in the 6th. The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs were no-hit in a 3-0 seven inning home practice game against Pierce County. Three Lady Bulldog pitchers allowed only five hits, four of them were stroked by Jessica Thornton who pitched the first four innings of the no-hitter. Thornton struck out eight batters. Lady Bulldogs prepare for 2007 season
The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs softball team has been practicing and playing scrimmage games against other schools in preparation for the start of the season in August. The Lady Bulldogs have just one returning senior (Brittany Wilds), but they have a quality junior class and a lot of young players. The team features quality pitching and good defense.
