The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups wrapped up their season by winning the MGMSAA Championship at the TCMS Gym. The Bullpups were dominant as they had 17 wrestlers finish in the top three in the 22 different weight classes. Toombs collected 49 points, West Laurens 38, Dodge County 34 and East Laurens 32.
First place finishers- Nathan Belch 120 pounds, Tyrease Kent 145, Michael Roach 171 and Donny Barrow 240.
Second place- Justin Bullock 75 pounds, Lucas Olliver 85, Jaime Villegas 90, Blaine Burkett 95, Sharmonte Franklin 110, Chris Williams 115, Carson Barwick 140 and Stephen Drake 160.
Third place- Dallas Coursey 80 pounds, Alex Ashley 125, Noah Moore 135, Brandon Chubb 152 and Adam Brown 189.

The third quarter was the tough quarter for the Toombs County Middle School basketball teams in their final home games of the season. The Bullpups, who stormed to a 20-5 lead with 2:30 remaining in the first half, were outscored 10-2 in the third quarter and 19-9 in the fourth as West Laurens rallied for a 41-35 win. Meanwhile, the Lady Bullpups were hanging around in their game trailing 6-4 in the first quarter and 11-5 at half. However, West Laurens outscored TCMS 13-0 in the third quarter and won 36-18.
Jordan Usher topped the Bullpups with 12 points, D.R. Meadows had 11, Andre Clark six, Landon Cowart four and Austin Williams two. TCMS Bullpup Christmas Tourney

In it's third year, nine schools are participating in the 2011 Toombs County Middle School Bullpup Christmas Tourney,Day 2- For the first time this season both Toombs County Middle School teams won on the same day. In back-to-back consolation games the Lady Bullpups edged out Jeff Davis 38-37 in overtime and then the Bullpups defeated William James (Statesboro) 33-30.
Girls game- Breanne Stanley (nine points) hit two free throws with 1:04 to go in overtime to give the Lady Bullpups the win. Stanley made 7-of-11 at the stripe including sinking her final three in a row. Courtney Moore (five points) also was 2-for-2 at the line in OT. Ashia Shipman led TCMS with 11 points and Abby Lynn scored nine. The victory was the Lady Pups second in less than a week. Boys game- In a close game Jalen Mobley (four points) came off the bench and hit two fourth quarter jump shots and Landon Cowart (five points) and Andre Clark (four points) each went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to lead the Bullpups to their second win of he season. Jordan Usher topped TCMS with 10 points and D.R. Meadows scored six in a short span at the end of the second quarter that tied the score at 16 at the break. Day 1- Treutlen swept TCMS winning the girls game 47-31 and the boys game 36-25. Landon Cowart topped the Bullpups with 10 points, Jordan Usher had eight, D.R. Meadows four and Andre Clark swished a 3-ball for three. The leading scorer for the Lady Bullpups was Breanne Stanley with six and Taylor Thompson, Courtney Moore and Abby Lynn each had four points. Lady Bullpups finally prevail

Exact date unknown. It had been almost two years since the Toombs County Middle School girls basketball team had won a game. They weren't victorious last season and they lost their first six games of this season. However, that painful run is over after a 25-24 overtime win over Swainsboro in Lyons. Abby Lynn scored all six of her points in the second half. She swished a 14-foot shot with 2:39 to play in regulation to tie the game at 19. The in overtime Lynn nailed a 15-footer with 2:21 to go the put TCMS up 23-21 and then she followed up a missed shot with a four-footer that ended up being the winning bucket. That shot put the Lady Bullpups on top 25-22 with 1:55 left. Swainsboro scored 40 seconds later to make it a one-point game. Watch Highlights You Tube

Boys game- The Bullpups, who earlier in the week beat Bleckley County for their first win, lost to Swainsboro 45-37. D,R. Meadows got hot in a fourth quarter comeback as the Bullpups sliced a double-digit lead down to single digits. He nailed two 3-pointers and two regular shots as he scored 10 of his 15. Meadows also beat the first quarter buzzer with a high arcing 24-footer that swished through the net for three points. Landon Cowart hammered the glass and scored 11 points. Bullpups win first roundball game

The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups started and finished strong as they defeated Bleckley County 40-35 for their first basketball victory of the season. The Pups scored 12 points in the first and fourth quarter. Jordan Usher led TCMS with 15 points. He scored 13 in the first half- seven in the first quarter and six in the second. Wayne Denson was the scoring force in he fourth quarter. He hit two perimeter shots and four free throws as he scored eight of his nine in the final period. Landon Cowart scored 10 points and D.R. Cheer Pups surge to 2nd place

The Toombs County Middle School Competition Cheerleading team saved it's best performance for last. After finishing fourth in a regular season competition, the Cheer Pups surged to second place in the MGMSAA Championships held in the TCMS Gym. Toombs scored 164 points and finished behind first place West Laurens (184 points) and in front of third place J.R. Trippe (155). Y-101 Story

The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups season came to an end with a 34-6 loss at J.R, Trippe. Eighth grade running back Devin Johnson scored four touchdowns on runs of 60, 17, 5 and 50 yards and Carlos Rock added two-yard rushing touchdown for the 5-1 Chiefs. Two of the Trippe touchdown drives were preceded by Pup fumbles. Watch highlights
Dodge County defeated Bleckley County 16-0 in a game in Eastman that was stopped in the third quarter because of lightening. Dodge wraps up the regular season with a 4-2 record and finishes fourth in the MGMSAA knocking the 3-3 Bullpups out of the playoffs.
Johnson scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and then added one each in the second and third quarter. The Bullpups scored their touchdown on a drive that began in the third quarter and ended in the fourth. Alex Ashley set up the drive with a long kick off return. Jordan Usher threw a pass to the one-yard line to Nathan Belch and then Ashley ended the drive with a one-yard run.
TCMS also had a nice drive to open up the game. Landon Cowart broke off a 12-yard run and Usher kept the ball on a fourth down play and picked up a first down. The drive ended at the 31-yard line on a fourth down play in which the Pups came up a yard short of picking up the first down. |
Two tough home losses

The Toombs County Middle School and Toombs County Junior Varsity football teams both lost tough home games and both contests turned on big plays by the visitors.
In the Bullups match up with West Laurens, Toombs tied the game at 14 with 53 seconds remaining in the half on Nathan Belch's second short touchdown run. He scored on runs of five and three-yards. However, unfortunately for the Pups the half wasn't over. West Laurens scored on a 48-yard run and kicked a two-pointer to lead 22-14 at half. West Laurens scored a late touchdown on its fourth big play and took home a 30-14 victory. Watch highlights
The JV opened up a 14-0 lead on touchdown runs by Jamar Smith and Marion Dingle. The Bulldogs scored a third touchdown with 8:59 to play on a two-yard run by Demetrius Taylor. The PAT was blocked giving TCHS a 20-7 lead.
Swainsboro came back and won the game on three big plays. The Tigers completed a double pass for a huge gain and scored on a pass play to make it 20-14 and then they picked up a fumble and ran it in to tie the game at 20 with 4:21 to go. In the showdown game of 4-0's the Dublin Middle School Shamrocks turned a close game at half in to a 30-8 victory over the Toombs County Middle School Bullpups by scoring two second half rushing touchdowns on runs of 40 and 30-yards by the same Shamrock, Watch highlights or practice slideshow
Dublin turned a Bullpup fumble in to a quick touchdown on the second play from scrimmage. The ball was stripped and then returned 22-yards for a touchdown. The two-point kick put Dublin up 8-0 just 36 seconds in to the game.
Alex Ashley returned the kickoff across midfield to the Dublin 49 and then the Bullpups moved the ball all the way to the two-yard line on tough running by Ashley, Nathan Belch, Jordan Usher and Landon Cowart, who broke two tackles on an 18-yard run to the eight. The drive ended on a fourth down run.
The Shamrocks stormed back the other way and drove 98-yards and they scored their second touchdown on a three-yard run. The two-point kick failed giving Dublin a 14-0 lead with 7:55 to play in the second quarter.
The Bullpups answered that score. Andre Clark's 23-yard kick off return set the Pups up at their 43-yard line. Usher completed a 14-yard pass to Cowart and then Landon finished the drive with a 35-yard touchdown run down the right sideline. Belch scored the two-pointer on a spinning run to the end zone pulling the Bullpups to 14-8 with 6:28 to play in the half.
TCMS had two more chances to score in the first half. Kicker Austin Williams recovered his own on-side kick. Usher then completed a short pass to Ashley and with determined running he turned it in to an 18-yard gain. The drive stalled on a fourth down run at the Dublin 16.

An afternoon shower prior to kickoff and a light rain until halftime made for a muddy and very wet playing surface. However, the Toombs County Middle School Bullpups were able to handle the challenging conditions as they scored two second half touchdowns in a 14-0 win over Swainsboro. First downs were rare and fumbles and punts were the norm in a scoreless first half. The Bullups defense bailed out the offense twice in the first two quarters by making stops deep on their side after a fumble and a blocked punt.
The Bullpups took advantage of a Swainsboro mistake at the end of the third quarter and scored just moments later. Andre Clark recovered a Swainsboro fumble on punt coverage at the Tiger 21. Nathan Belch, who was the Bullups most effective runner on the wet surface, ran the ball down to the one-yard line and quarterback Jordan Usher finished the two-play drive with a keeper. Alex Ashley ran off the right side of the Pup line and scored the two-point conversion to put TCMS up 8-0 with 22 second left in the third quarter.
Toombs scored the final touchdown on another Swainsboro turnover. The Tigers threw a backward pass and nobody picked up the lateral for several seconds thinking it was an incomplete pass. Head coach Eric Burns yelled to Dominique Smith to pick up the ball and the eighth grader did and he ran it untouched in to the end zone with 7:02 to play in the game. |

Thursday was a winning day for Toombs County football in Lyons. The TCMS Bullpups shutout Bleckley County 30-0. The 3-0 Pups have not allowed a single point in regulation this season. Landon Cowart opened the scoring with a bruising run, Alex Ashley scored on a short run and Nathan Belch returned a punt down the left sideline for six. Watch highlights
The Toombs County JV team defeated Metter 6-2. The Bulldogs put together a touchdown drive on their first possession and Marion Dingle scored on a short run. Metter scored on a safety in the fourth quarter and had field position deep on the Toombs side on three straight possesions. However, Cameron Conner picked off two half back passes and he knocked down a QB pass to give the 1-1 Bulldogs their first win by the 6-2 score. Watch highlights

Bullpups pull out OT win

For 32 minutes of regulation the Toombs County Middle School Bullpups and the the Dodge County Warriors dueled in a scoreless game. However, in overtime, starting from the 15-yard line, both teams scored a short rushing touchdown. Alex Ashley ran the ball in for TCMS. The difference in the game was Landon Cowart ran in a two-point conversion for the Bullpups and then on the game's final play Cowart and fellow linebacker Brandon Chubb stopped the Warriors two-point try at the one-yard line giving Toombs an 8-6 home win. The Toombs County Middle School softball team ended the regular season with a split of a pair of home games. The Lady Bullpups lost to J.R. Trippe 11-3 and nipped East Laurens 7-6 in 12 innings. Taylor Thompson was the winning pitcher and she threw 11 innings and had a double. Kristin Allen caught all 12 innings and scored the tying run. TCMS Girls win soccer championship

The Toombs County Middle School Lady Bullpups scored a goal in each half in a 2-0 home win over East Laurens in the semifinals of the MGMSAA playoffs. Christy Garcia scored the Lady Bullpups' first half goal and Ansley Tatum fired in a direct free kick from just outside the 18 for the second tally. The shot was placed perfectly in the upper 90 of the net. Watch Highlights Video The Lady Bullpups scored two goals in the final 12 minutes of their championship match and they nipped J.R. Trippe 2-1. Julie Sheppard scored the winning goal on a break-away with five minutes to play. Both Toombs County Middle School soccer teams are 5-0 in MGMSAA games. The Lady Bullpups defeated West Laurens 1-0 on Tuesday and the only goal was scored by Ansley Tatum, who fired in her tenth tally of the season. Watch Highlights Video
The Bullpups knocked off West Laurens 3-1. Gilbert Zamarano scored a TCMS goal in the first half to give the Bullpups the lead at halftime. West Laurens tied the game late in the second half and then the Bullpups, who haven't lost a game in two-plus seasons, regained the lead when Efrem Zamarano drilled a shot from outside the 18 past the keeper. Gilbert Zamarano wrapped up the scoring with his 18th goal of the season on a play you don't normally see. He bent a corner kick into the net without anybody touching it. Watch Highlights Video |

Bullpups bolt by Bleckley County

The Toombs County Bullpups have had a good week winning two out of three games including a 36-22 home victory over Bleckley County on Wednesday. Tevin Blount scored seven of his 11 points in the first quarter and Quovante Kent tossed in seven of his nine in the third quarter to lead the Bullpups. Jordan Usher added six points and Carlos Eason four. Watch Highlights Video
The Bullpups lost 47-44 in overtime at East Laurens. Kent topped TCMS with 11, Blount and Eason each had 10. Toombs knocked off Dodge County at home 53-50. Kent scored 15, Blount 14 and Eason 13.
Bleckley won the girls game 38-16. Bailey Bryson scored eight points and Aisha Shipman had six. East Laurens beat TCMS 24-15. Shipman scored eight. |
TCMS basketball season opens

The Toombs County Middle School Basketball teams opened up the season with home losses to Dublin. The Bullpups, who trailed 12-3 after the first quarter, wound up losing 37-33. The Pups outscored the Irish 13-6 in the second quarter and trailed 18-16 at half. Toombs had a one-point lead in the third quarter. Carlos Eason topped TCMS with 13 points. Pups fall in semifinals by two

In a regular game at West Laurens the Toombs County Middle School Bullups rallied with two fourth quarter touchdown runs by Jamar Smith and won by two points. In a rematch in the MGMSAA semifinals in Lyons the Raiders scored a rushing touchdown and a 2-point conversion with 1:11 to play to edge the Bullpups by that same 2-point margin, 14-12.
West Laurens score a rushing TD on it's first possession and then missed the 2-point kick giving the Raiders a 6-0 with 6:38 to play in the first quarter. After stopping West Laurens on fourth down in the red zone, TCMS tied the game with 2:28 to go in the second quarter on a long run by Smith. The Pups 2-point try failed making it a 6-6 game at half.
With 7:18 to play in the fourth quarter Smith scored again on a tough, bruising run in which he was hit by six Raiders. The Bullpups came up short on their 2-point run so the TCMS lead was 12-6.

Smith dazzles as Pups advance

Jamar Smith scored four rushing touchdowns in the Toombs County Middle School Bullpups 38-14 first round home playoff victory. Quarterback Ben Brantley threw a short pass which Marion Dingle turned into a big TD play. Dingle snagged another pass from Smith and set up a short touchdown run by Jamar. Two of Smith's scoring runs were long distance efforts. The 6-1 Pups, who are seeded second, will play at home in the semifinal round on Thursday, November 5 at 4:30 p.m. Y-101 Story

Pups DO bounce back and finish 2nd
| The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups sucessfully rebounded from their only loss of the season by wrapping up their regular season with a 25-13 win at Dodge County. Tailback Jamar Smith scored a rushing touchdown, caught a TD pass from quarteback Ben Brantley and threw one to Carlos Eason. Bullpups lose first game

In a matchup of the only remaining undefeated teams in the MGMSAA, the J.R. Trippe Chiefs beat Toombs County Middle School 36-6 in the Pit. Carlos Rock scored the first two touchdowns to put the Chiefs up 14-0. Toombs struck in the opening half with a big pass play. Quarterback Ben Brantley threw a perfect slant in pass to Marion Dingle. Dingle made the catch in between a corner and a safety, he broke a tackle and then ran the final 30-yards of the 47-yard play for the Bullpups only TD.
Josh Eason scored a second quarter touchdown on a running play to give the Chiefs a 22-6 lead at half. In the second half Rock scored his third touchdown of the game and Marqueveous Harris wrapped up the scoring with a one-yard run. J.R. Trippe is 5-0 and TCMS 4-1. The Bullpups will close out their regular season next Thursday at 4:30 at Dodge County. A TCMs victory will secure a number two seed in the playoffs for the Bullpups. Jamar Smith scored two of his three touchdowns in the fourth quarter giving the Toombs County Middle school Bulldogs an 18-16 win at West Laurens. The Bullpups trailed 8-6 and 16-12 in the fourth quarter but Smith and his offensive line were able to overcome both deficits with long TD runs. Y-101 Story
Jamar ran 18-yards for his first touchdown on the Bullpups first offensive possession. West Laurens countered on its first possession with a 43-yard TD run. The Bullpups missed their 2-point conversion while the Raiders made their kick for two. Neither team scored in the second quarter although the Raiders threw an incomplete pass from the Bulldog 12 on the final play of the half. It was 8-6 West Laurens at the break. Practice Slideshow
The third quarter was also scoreless prior to the fireworks in the fourth. Smith put TCMS on top 12-8 with a 55-yard TD run with 4:15 to play. West Laurens regained the advantage by scoring on a 57-yard pass that was tipped by the Bullpups. With the 2-point kick the Raiders has a 16-12 lead with 3:01 to go. Then with a little more than a minute to play in the game Smith raced 27-yards with the game winner. Carlos Eason intercepted a pass to put the game on ice. Seeking to avenge a 32-0 loss to Dublin in the championship game last season the Toombs County Middle School Bullpups scored on three big plays and beat visiting Dublin 22-14. All the points were scored in the first nine and a half minutes of the opening half.
Jamar Smith scored his eleventh touchdown of the season on his first carry, a long run of more than 60-yards, which started near the Pups' sideline and ended as he cut across the field and ran down the Dublin side for a quick six. Smith ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead just 26 seconds in to the game.
Dublin scored on a long run and missed the two-point kick to cut the TCMS lead to 8-6 with 5:40 to play in the first quarter. Smith threw a halfback touchdown pass to Marion Dingle to increase the Bullpups lead to 14-6 with 3:21 to go in the first period. Smith's two-point failed.
Dingle scored on a sixty-yard run and then caught a pass from Smith for the two-point conversion to give the Bullpups a 22-6 lead just 11 seconds in to the second quarter. Dublin countered with a short touchdown run with 6:34 to play in the second quarter. This time the Irish made their two-point kick and that ended the scoring in this game. Y-101 Story

The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups won their second straight road game and once again eighth grade running back scored a bulk of the points. Smith scored on three long runs and on one bruising one in which he took a linebacker for a ride and then ran over two defensive backs as TCMS defeated Swainsboro 30-22 at Tiger Field. Smith broke free on two 57- yard runs in the first and fourth quarters and he finished the game with another run of around 40-yards. Y-101 Story
The Bullpups trailed 16-8 at half, however, they started the second half with two defensive stops and then they tied the game at 16 and took a 24-16 lead. Swainsboro scored a late fourth quarter touchdown to pull to within two points. The Tigers tried to run the ball for a two-point conversion, but Hunter Floyd led the charge and blew up the play. Bullpups pressure-defense shutouts East Laurens for 32 minutes |

Jamar Smith scored three touchdowns and Marion Dingle contributed one as The Toombs County Middle School Bullpups beat visiting East Laurens 30-0 in a 32 minute scrimmage. Smith, who is playing his final season with the Pups, scored on a short run, a long one and another short one in which he was hit by at least six Falcons. The TCHS Bulldog Junior Varsity beat Claxton 24-6 in the Pit in their first game of the season. Kenny Goethe scored on a long run, Gary Terrell returned a punt for a TD from more than 50-yards away and Martin Terrell scored on a rushing play.

| The Toombs County Middle School softball team opened up its final week of the season with two home wins. On Monday the Lady Bullpups closed out their regular season by downing Bleckley County 10-1 and then on Wednesday they opened the playoffs by beating Swainsboro 13-9.
